Roofing in Woden Valley: original tile under mature canopy
Built largely in the 1960s and 70s, Woden Valley carries some of Canberra's most established housing — and many homes still wear their original concrete or terracotta tile roofs, now well past 50 years. The district's mature tree canopy is its defining roofing factor: constant leaf litter blocks valleys and gutters, holds moisture against the roof, and feeds the moss and lichen that thrive on shaded southern faces. These roofs restore well, but they need the vegetation managed first, and the frost-aged pointing almost always needs redoing.
