Roofing in Weston Creek: 70s homes on the bushfire interface
Weston Creek was built in the 1970s and sits hard against the western bush edge β Duffy, Chapman and Rivett were among the suburbs hit by the 2003 Canberra firestorm, and bushfire awareness is part of roofing here in a way it isn't elsewhere in the city. Beyond fire, the work is classic 70s tile: worn coatings, frost-cracked pointing and ageing valleys. When we restore or re-roof on this edge we pay attention to ember-entry points β gaps at ridges, valleys and eaves, and gutter debris that becomes fuel β detailing a bush-zone roof should have.
